Throughout middle school and most of my high school years I rocked the beachy wave look. I would braid my hair the night before and then take it out and pull it half back the next morning. The only problem was by the end of the day the waves would fall out and my hair would get frizzy. Since then I have found one special little product that holds my beautiful beachy waves up to third day hair. What is it? Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.
I discovered a travel size bottle of this at Ulta and with high hopes decided to give it a try. On Bumble and Bumble’s website, their claims for the spray are texture, hold and volume. I would agree with these claims 110%. Personally, I am not a fan of a gritty texture feel in my hair. The surf sprays texture I can definitely handle. The hold of this product is what really blows me away. I wash my hair every 3 days and by the time I’m ready to wash my hair it has lost probably 10-20% of the wave I originally had. As far as volume goes, I feel it gives the perfect amount without being too over the top.
I use the Surf Spray by getting my hair a little damp with water, spray the product in, distribute it evenly with a brush and then braid my hair in two braids and go to bed. How much I saturate my hair is depending on how much of a wave I am going for.
EDIT: I revisited this post a few years later and while I still love this method, I would also like to add that instead if using salt spray you can also opt for a curl cream with hold to apply on damp hair before braiding. This will give the same effect without the text from the salt spray. But, the salt spray still may give you better hold! The cream I love to use for this look is REF Curl Power.
My favorite thing about this method is how many compliments I get and how much I get asked if that’s my natural wave. It’s definitely a 10/10 in my book. So if you’re looking to get that beachy wave look or even just accentuate your natural wave give this product and technique a try and let me know how you like it!
