My mom, the woman who I can credit a huge part of my success to. My model, role model, mentor, guinea pig and so much more. This is a thank you to her and a way for you to get to know a little more about myself and my family.
For those of you who don’t know her, she is caring, creative, smart, beautiful, talented and much more. Her nickname is Martha Stewart because she is extremely crafty and is good at cooking and baking. She had me do crafts throughout my childhood.
If I were to describe her in one word it would be supermom. She achieved the ultimate mom status in my eyes taking care of my brother and I. My brother, Spencer, passed away at age 4 from a Mitochondrial disease. He was special needs and severely ill throughout his life and for those 4 years she dedicated everything she did to taking care of the two of us. There will never be enough words to describe everything she did for the both of us.
Growing up she was my shoulder to cry on and one of my biggest supporters. From volunteering in school when I was younger to being at every cheerleading event to now being my model/guinea pig for my business. She’s been at anything and everything that had to do with me and I cannot thank her enough.
Behind the scenes she proof reads every blog post and does anything I ask her to. I decided to end this off by asking her a couple questions about me and my career.
Did you know I would end up with this career when I was a kid/growing up?
“Before you wanted to do hair and makeup you were super into fashion.” “You wanted to be a fashion designer so that was similar.” “I was not surprised.”
Was I into doing makeup or hair when I was younger?
“You put our hair in all sorts of ponytails.” “You weren’t into makeup because I didn’t let you have it. I didn’t want to clean it up.”
Did you ever think I would have my own business?
“No” “I think it stems from your upbringing being in a household with a strong work ethic.” “I think it’s impressive.”
Overall, what are your thoughts on my career?
“I think it’s impressive that this is what you have chosen” “I think this is what you were meant to do.” “I think it’s very rewarding because you’re making someone feel better about themselves.”
I would not be the person I am today without my mother. I’ve also noticed that as I get older almost every word/expression that comes out of me is her. I am 150% her daughter. Every now and again you’ll see her pop up in my work but she is always helping behind the scenes and always will. Thank you, Martha.
