Ok so let’s be real, who doesn’t want a youthful glow that lasts forever?! Everyone and their mother is on the hunt for that one good beauty secret that keeps them looking youthful for years to come.
So, what could mine be? Well, it’s quite simpler than you think and if you start at a young age and are religious about it, your skin will thank you in the long run. I encourage you to read this blog post until the end because not only do I share my secret, I also share another great tip and a personal story of mine.
Ok, here it is; it’s hydrating the skin. Yup, you heard that right it’s moisture, moisture, moisture! Your skin craves moisture more than you think. Whether weather elements come into play, how much water you drink on a regular basis or that you aren’t treating it the way you should your skin thrives when it’s moisturized.
So, I know I’m not the only one who’s mother taught them to moisturize and hydrate from head to toe starting at a young age. And they learned that from their mother who taught the same thing to them at a young age. But, have you ever wondered why?
While moisturizer cannot completely get rid of wrinkles, it can help to prevent them and lessen the look of them when applied. When you apply a moisturizer, the skin absorbs it and then is instantly plumped. This plumping effect then lessens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Have you ever heard someone say that people with oily skin will have less wrinkles when they age? This is because if you have extreme oily skin, this oil is acting as a natural moisturizer. BUT, oily skin still needs moisture just like dry skin! A lot of the time your skin is producing even more oils because it is trying to compensate for the lack of moisture.
On the flip side, if you have dry skin this can actually accentuate your fine lines and wrinkles. Dry skin is essentially texture on the skin because dry skin is flakey and scaly. So, if you have any kind of texture on the skin it can and will be accentuated by anything that is on top of it, even wrinkles.
Think about a wrinkle on smooth skin VS a wrinkle on scaly skin. The one on the scaly skin is going to look more prominent, more intense and deepened.
So, we aren’t done yet. Another great tip is to layer your moisturizers. Using a moisturizer day and night is a great start, but if you really want to kick it up a notch you can start layering a serum or oil, then your moisturizer on top for maximum hydration.
So what I mean by this is you could use an oil, let’s use squalane oil as an example, at night first after cleansing and then apply your night cream on top of it. Or you could use a vitamin C serum at night and then your moisturizer on top.
Personally, I have been loving Sonia Roselli’s skin prep line for before makeup but this line can also be used at night before you go to bed. She believes in light layers to achieve maximum hydration and have your skin looking flawless all day everyday.
Let me tell you how much of a serious impact this made on not only my clients but also on my own skin. I have been loving her line of Water Oil, Water Elixir and Water Balm on my clients for a while now. But, recently it completely saved the day when I was applying my makeup.
I did almost my full face of makeup to see it looking scaly and just crappy. My skin did not look good in the slightest and my fine lines under my eyes looked accentuated. I ended up taking it all off and applying her Water Elixir and Water Balm before starting over again. Let me tell you, not only did the fine lines under my eyes look more plump and less prominent, my skin looked immensely better and I actually felt like I needed less makeup than I applied before.
